Aiden Markram, who has done well in the T20 format lately, was the first name to pop up on the second day and many sides went after him. Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually got him on board for INR 2.6 crore. While Kolkata Knight Riders bought Ajinkya Rahane for his base price of INR 1 crore, Delhi Capitals grabbed Mandeep Singh’s services for INR 1.1 crore.
Interestingly, several overseas stars like Dawid Malan, Marnus Labuschagne, Eoin Morgan, and Aaron Finch went unsold. The same was the case for local stars like Cheteshwar Pujara and Saurabh Tiwary. Then came the second set of all-rounders and England’s Liam Livingstone was the first to go under the hammer.
Liam Livingstone breaches the INR 10-crore mark
With Livingstone being a three-dimensional player and a proven star of this format, teams went hard after him. After a stiff battle with multiple franchises, Punjab Kings got the all-rounder on board for a staggering INR 11.5 crore. Interestingly, New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham didn’t attract a single bid and went unsold. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans showed great interest in all-rounders as they got the likes of Dominic Drakes, Jayant Yadav and Vijay Shankar for a bargain.
Chris Jordan was another notable name to go unsold in the round. Having done well in the recently concluded ODI series against India, West Indies’ Odean Smith turned out to be a popular pick. Punjab Kings had to splash INR 6 crore to get him on board. On expected lines, Marco Jansen’s bidding also went on for a while as Sunrisers Hyderabad piped Mumbai Indians to grab him for INR 4.2 crore. Shivam Dube was another substantial signing in the session as Chennai Super Kings purchased him for INR 4 crore.
