Virender Sehwag has retired from international cricket for a long time now. He has done some coaching stints in the IPL and is a full-time pundit and a commentator for Star Sports nowadays. He is doing a wonderful job there as well. Sehwag will be a part of the KXIP setup. He will mentor the team they buy this year.
The 39-year-old will look to buy smartly, rather than spending a lot on only a few players. However, in an interaction with the media, Viru was asked whether IPL is bigger than the other T20 leagues and he answered the question without any hesitation. Sehwag compared IPL to many other big leagues and said that IPL is older and better in many ways.
IPL better than BBL, CPL or BPL – Sehwag
Virender Sehwag has played and coached in the IPL and knows how big it is. After he was asked about IPL being bigger than any other league, Sehwag explained it with simplicity. He said that any cricketer who has played international cricket wants to play in the IPL. It is because the premier Indian T20 league has best players from all around the world.
“The IPL is the biggest league in the world and one of the favorites (among various leagues) in the world, because a single player, who is playing cricket, anywhere in the world, wants to play in the IPL. So that shows that the credibility and publicity of the IPL are so big that even an uncapped player, who is a player of some other country, wants to play in the IPL,” Viru explained as quoted by News 18.
He also added that Indian players do not play in any other leagues. That makes IPL distinct from other leagues as well. He compared IPL to the Big Bash League as well. “The IPL is the biggest because all nations’ players are playing in the IPL, which you would not find in any other (cricket) league such as Big Bash, CPL or BPL, where Indian players are not there,” opined Sehwag.
Sehwag further added that IPL has all the world-class players, no matter what. Everyone wants to play in this league, this happens only with the Indian Premier League. “That’s why those leagues are not as big. Only in the IPL, all world-class players are playing and that is why IPL is the best in the world,” Virender Sehwag concluded.
