The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is still a fair way away but the teams are busy trading the players and making structural changes. In the latest turn of events, Mike Hesson has decided to part ways with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) after working with the team as the head coach for the 2019 season. KXIP failed to qualify for the playoffs even this season after promising a lot and the franchise will now have to look out for a new coach.

Hesson had resigned as New Zealand‘s head coach earlier this year to take up the coveted post and the team looked settled under his watchful eyes. The KXIP made some smart buys in the auction as well and the squad was tipped to go all the way. But like they did in 2018 edition of the IPL, started well this year as well and fell off the radar in the latter half of the tournament.

Mike Hesson took to his official Twitter handle to break the news of him resigning from the helm at the franchise and wished them luck for the upcoming season and the future. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Kings XI franchise and wish to thank them for the season I had in charge. Whilst disappointed not to be able to build on the work we did this year, I’m sure success isn’t too far away for them. I wish them all the best for the future,” his post read.

Hesson applied for India head coach post?

Earlier, the reports surfaced that Mike Hesson was going to apply for India’s head coach position. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) led by Kapil Dev is expected to finalise the head coach this month with the current coach Ravi Shastri also contesting to extend his tenure.

“Hesson is very much interested in applying for the head coach’s position. He has spent a couple of months in India already working with Kings XI in IPL as well as doing television work with the hosts broadcasters. He’ll love to work with a high-profile team like India after a highly successful stint with New Zealand.

Hesson and his agent need to be convinced about the conditions of the job as laid down by the BCCI. But chances are that they will be sending their application in soon,” the source close to the development had said according to CricketNext.
