In a high-scoring encounter where the bowlers were smacked all around the park, the Delhi Capitals chased down a massive target of 196 set by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side with 6 wickets and 1.4 overs to spare. And, the architect of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) victory was veteran batsman Shikhar Dhawan.

The Delhi opener scored a classic 92 off just 49 deliveries to act as the catalyst of Delhi’s batting lineup. Opener Prithvi Shaw provided excellent support to Dhawan and scored a brisk 17-ball 32. Marcus Stoinis applied the finishing touches for the Delhi side.

The Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) openers provided a blistering start for the side. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal put on a whirlwind opening stand of 122 runs off just 12.4 overs. While Agarwal blazed his way to 69 off just 36 deliveries, KL Rahul helped himself to a sedate 51-ball 61. Deepak Hooda then provided the final flourish that the KL Rahul led side needed by scoring a brisk 22, as the Punjab side ended their innings with their scorecard reading 195/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Delhi Capitals are now placed at 2nd place in the points table, while the Punjab Kings are languishing at 7th place.

AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell power RCB to their third consecutive victory

Earlier in the day, the sorcery of AB de Villiers and the flamboyance of Glenn Maxwell powered RCB to a crushing 38-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Bangalore outfit was reduced to 9/2. But then, Maxwell and De Villiers took matters into their own hands.

While the Australian batting powerhouse smashed 78 off just 49 deliveries, de Villiers pounded his way to 76* at a strike rate of 223.53. Both Maxwell and de Villiers together struck 18 fours and 6 sixes for the RCB side.

In reply, the Kolkata outfit wilted under the pressure of a massive chase. The Eoin Morgan-led side kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and could only manage to put up a total of 166/8 on the board. Andre Russell was the highest run-scorer for the Kolkata side and scored 31 off 20 deliveries.

With this victory, the Royal Challengers Bangalore side has moved to the top of the points table.
