It was a stroll in the park for the Delhi Capitals in Match No.33 of the IPL. The Delhi outfit outplayed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side in every department of the game and posted a comfortable 8-wicket victory to start off their campaign in the second leg of the IPL on a rousing note.

Chasing a target of 135 set by the Hyderabad side, Delhi youngster Prithvi Shaw was the first batsman to be dismissed. He holed out to Kane Williamson, who completed an excellent catch running backward at mid-on as the Delhi scorecard read 20/1. But then, Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan put on an excellent partnership of 52 runs to keep the SRH bowlers at bay. Dhawan scored a sedate 37-ball 42 and played the role of sheet anchor.

The left-handed Dhawan also scored 6 fours and a six in his stay out in the middle. He was dismissed by leg spinner Rashid Khan. Shreyas Iyer and skipper Rishabh Pant then ensured that the Delhi side faced no more hiccups, and coasted past the target with ease. With Iyer scored 47*, Pant scored a belligerent 35*.

On the bowling front, there was nothing much to cheer for the ‘Orange Army’. The Hyderabad bowlers could pick up just 2 wickets in the match. And, the two bowlers who scalped a wicket each were Khaleel Ahmed and Rashid Khan.

Sunrisers Hyderabad huff and puff their way to 134/9

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side produced a disappointing performance with the willow in the first innings. SRH opener David Warner was dismissed for a third ball duck, to leave the ‘Orange Army’ reeling at 0/1.

The likes of Wriddhiman Saha and Kane Williamson got off to starts, but both of them could not convert their starts into a big score. While the SRH skipper was dismissed for a 26-ball 18, Saha scored 18 off 17 deliveries.

Abdul Samad and Rashid Khan then contributed some useful runs for the Hyderabad side. Samad scored a handy 28 at a strike rate of 133.33, while Rashid scored a 19-ball 22. On the bowling front, Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers. Even though he was on the expensive side and leaked runs at an economy rate of 9.25 runs per over, the South African pacer picked up 3 wickets.

Anrich Nortje was outstanding with the ball and gave away just 12 runs in his 4 overs. He also picked up the wickets of David Warner and Kedar Jadhav. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel chipped in with a couple of wickets as well. With this win, the Delhi Capitals have moved to the top of the points table, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad side continues to languish at the bottom of the table.
