Rahul Tripathi and skipper Eoin Morgan allowed the Kolkata Knight Riders to arrest their losing streak and enabled the side to comfortably coast to a 5-wicket victory against the KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) side. Even though the Kolkata side lost their first 3 wickets with just 17 runs on the board, Tripathi and Morgan steadied the ship.

The duo was involved in a 66-run partnership and steered the Kolkata side across the finish line. While Tripathi scored 41 off 32 deliveries, Morgan scored an unbeaten 47. Dinesh Karthik applied the finishing touches for the Kolkata side and scored 12*.

For the Punjab Kings (PBKS), 4 bowlers scalped one wicket each. But the bowler who impressed the most was Mohammed Shami. Shami bowled tight lines and gave away just 25 runs in the 4 overs that he bowled.

Punjab Kings huff and puff their way to 123/9

The Punjab Kings produced a disappointing performance with the bat. In their allotted 20 overs, the KL Rahul led side could just manage to post a total of 123/9 on the board. In fact, except for opening batsman, Mayank Agarwal who scored 31, not even a single top-order batsman from the KL Rahul led side could make a meaningful contribution.

While KL Rahul was the first batsman to depart for 19, West Indian Chris Gayle departed for a first-ball duck. Deepak Hooda could score just a solitary run and Nicholas Pooran helped himself to a run a ball 19. Chris Jordan provided the final flourish that was needed for the Punjab side and dazzled in a brief cameo of 30 off just 18 deliveries.

For the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers. The lanky right-arm pacer scalped 3 wickets and gave away 30 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Apart from Prasidh, the likes of Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine also picked up a couple of wickets each.

And with this victory, the Kolkata Knight Riders have moved to 5th place in the points table, while the Punjab Kings occupy 6th place.
