The Punjab Kings managed to arrest their three-match losing streak by posting a 9-wicket victory over five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians on 23rd April 2021. Punjab skipper KL Rahul led his side’s charge with the willow. On a pitch that was challenging to bat on, Rahul applied himself and scored a patient 60* off 52 deliveries. Apart from Rahul, the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle also contributed vital runs.

While Agarwal scored 25, the ‘Universe Boss’ helped himself to 43* off 35 deliveries as Punjab posted their second victory in the 14th IPL edition. On the bowling front, Rahul Chahar picked up the only wicket to fall for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side. Chahar also bowled an economical spell and gave away just 19 runs in the 4 overs that he bowled. Jayant Yadav also did a tidy job for the Mumbai side with the ball in hand and gave away only 20 runs in the 4 overs that he rolled his arm over.

Rohit Sharma’s half-century propels Mumbai Indians (MI) to 131/6

The Mumbai Indians (MI) produced a mediocre performance with the willow in hand. In fact, the only bright spot for the Mumbai side was the way their skipper Rohit Sharma batted. The ‘Hitman’ scored a classy 63 off 52 deliveries and played the role of sheet anchor at the top of the order.

Apart from Rohit, the other batsman who contributed some vital runs to the team was Suryakumar Yadav. The right-hander scored a 27-ball 33 for the ‘Men in Blue’. Apart from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, every other Mumbai willow wielder cut a sorry figure. In fact, 5 Mumbai batsmen could not even score in double digits.

On the bowling front, Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi scalped 4 wickets between them for the Punjab Kings (PBKS). With this victory, the Punjab Kings have now moved to 5th place in the points table, while the Mumbai Indians are placed at 4th place.
