In an encounter where fortunes swung wildly, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side by a slender margin of 4 runs in the 52nd match of the 2021 edition of the IPL.
Chasing a target of 142, the RCB side lost their skipper Virat Kohli early. The master batsman was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and departed for just 5 runs. Daniel Christian’s horrendous run with the bat continued, and he was dismissed by Siddharth Kaul for just 1 run.
Srikar Bharat then edged Umran Malik to Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps and walked back for a 10-ball 12. Glenn Maxwell once again went berserk and demolished the SRH bowling attack. The Aussie scored a belligerent 40 off 25 deliveries and hammered the opposition. But then, Maxwell’s blazing innings came to an end after he was run out, courtesy a brilliant direct hit from Kane Williamson.
Devdutt Padikkal gobbled up 52 balls, and scored 41 runs for the RCB side, scoring his runs at a poor strike rate of 78.84. For the SRH side, all 5 bowlers who rolled their arm over scalped a wicket each.
Sunrisers Hyderabad post 141/7 on the board
Batting first, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side posted a total of 141/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Jason Roy top-scored for the ‘Orange Army’ with a classy 44 off 38 deliveries, while skipper Kane Williamson scored a handy 29-ball 31 as well.
Apart from these two batsmen, none of the other willow wielders could even cross the 20-run mark for the SRH side. Harshal Patel once again proved his worth for the Virat Kohli-led outfit with the ball in hand.
In the 4 overs that he bowled, Patel picked up 3 wickets and gave away 33 runs. Daniel Christian scalped 2 wickets, while the likes of George Garton and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a wicket each. After this victory, the SRH side continues to stay at the last place in the points table, while the RCB side remains at the 3rd spot.
