Former India skipper Anil Kumble has stated that he was not in favor of shifting the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from the country.

“IPL is a global brand which brings in lot of revenue to the country. It should not be shifted,” he told reporters during a visit to the Greenfield Stadium at Karyavattom here.

Last week, in a rather shocking development, the BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur revealed that the IPL governing body was contemplating a decision to move the IPL out of the country. Speaking to journalists at the BCCI headquarters,

IPL was twice played outside India, both in assembly election years. In 2009, it was moved for the entire duration to South Africa and in 2014 was shifted to the United Arab Emirates for the first 15 days.

The veteran cricketer was in Kerala to visit the Sports Hub Trivandrum and spend time with the first batch of students of a sports coaching academy, co-supported by Kumble’s sports training and consulting company TENVIC.

This edition has been marred with controversies after numerous PILs were filed against BCCI due to the severe water crisis in various parts of India. One of the PIL filed in the Bombay High Court was ruled against BCCI. The ruling ordered 12 matches to be moved out of drought-hit Maharashtra.

Sports Hub Trivandrum is a sports coaching academy which will operate in collaboration of KSFL-TENVIC commenced operations here on April 20 with coaching for cricket and football.
