South Africa’s star batsman AB de Villiers has been one of the most successful batsmen in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He had a poor run of form this season, but his overall record is the testament to the previous statement. But Mr. 360° has opted to ignore the 4-match Test series between South Africa and England. He cited elbow injury and spending time with family as a reason for it.

His better-half is expecting a child. But de Villiers played the IPL despite his injury. He received around 1.5 million Euros this year. AB has no regrets whatsoever in choosing IPL over national duties. He is rather happy to play in the Indian Premier League. In IPL, de Villiers plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team captained by Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Family comes first

“I made some important decisions for my life and career in the last year or so in order for me to have the best chance of winning trophies and being part of a successful team. Physically I realised I’m the best I can be when I’m fresh and looking forward to cricket instead of the other way round and being tired when I’m playing. Spending time with the family has done me the world of good and it is about finding the balance of working hard to win with time away from the game,” Dailymail.co.uk quoted him as saying.

But he wants to make a comeback in the Test squad in late 2017 when the Proteas’ are scheduled to play India. “It is an individual thing and not everybody is in my situation. Some players will have a similar decision to make but this is what will work for me. I can’t speak for the rest of the cricketing world.” said de Villiers. He, however, will lead the squad when they take on hosts England in the three Royal-London ODI matches.
