England clinched the one-off ODI against Ireland but not without a terrific fight from the Irish bowlers in the rain-affected game. Liam Plunkett (4/25) and Tom Curran (4/35), restricted the home team to 198 after they were cruising with a 55-run opening stand. Josh Little’s figures of 4/51 helped his team ran through the England line-up as Ireland reduced the visitors to 62/5 and soon 101/6 in 27 overs. Ben Foakes (61*) and Tom Curran (47*) tied-up to share an unbeaten 98-run stand to take England home with three overs to spare.

All the major stats and numbers recorded during the one-off ODI between England and Ireland:

A debut to remember for Foakes:

2 – Ben Foakes became only the 2nd wicket-keeper with fifty-plus scores on both Test and ODI debuts. Foakes scored 107 on his Test debut last year and an unbeaten 61 in this game. Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower was the first such player as he scored an unbeaten 115 in the 1992 CWC game where he made his ODI debut and followed it with a 59 on his Test debut in the same year.

61* – Ben Foakes’ unbeaten 61-run knock is now the highest ODI score on debut for a wicket-keeper. Andy Flower’s 112* in the 1992 CWC is the only century by a keeper on ODI debut.

Foakes is also the first England keeper to score a fifty on ODI debut as the previous highest score was 35 by Geraint Jones against Windies in the 2004 Nottingham ODI.

7 – Foakes is one of the seven keepers to score a fifty on ODI debut but he and Afghanistan’s Afsar Zazai are the only keepers to take a catch and affect a stumping on debut going with the fifty-plus score. Foakes is also one of the five keepers to score a century on Test debut but the only player to affect a stumping and take a catch alongside scoring a ton.

Little makes a grand debut:

1 – Josh Little became the first Ireland player to claim a 4-wicket haul on ODI debut. The previous best bowling figures on ODI debut for an Irish player are 3/15 by Alex Cusack in the 2007 Belfast ODI against South Africa.

3 – Little is also the 3rd player to claim a 4-wicket haul against England on ODI debut. Sri Lanka’s Ashantha de Mel in the 1982 Colombo ODI and South Africa’s Shaun Pollock in the 1996 Cape Town ODI had figures of 4/34.

A rare double for Curran:

3 – Tom Curran is only the 3rd England player to claim a 3-wicket haul and scored 40+ runs while batting at No.8 or a lower position in the same ODI. Stuart Broad scored an unbeaten 45* after recording figures of 4/51 in the 2007 Nottingham ODI against India. Adil Rashid scored 69 and took 4/55 in the 2015 Birmingham ODI against New Zealand.

Playing in Ireland and handing debuts:

6 – England now has featured in six ODI matches against Ireland in Ireland; all since 2006. In each of those six ODIs, the visiting team handed ODI debut to at least three players. In the 2015 ODI, England had as many as five ODI debutants while the games in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2019 had three debutants.

In the last 15 years, England had only six matches where three or more players made their ODI debut for them. All the six instances were recorded in the matches against Ireland in Ireland only.
