Irfan Pathan has not played for India for quite some time now. Especially, with the new brigade taking over and looking at the future, the fact is that the 32-year old has a very slim chance of making a comeback to the top flight. However, despite this, the all-rounder has decided to take inspiration from Ashish Nehra who has made his way back to the India T20 squad, something that is a feature of this India squad.

Pathan, who is certainly looking for a way back into the side stated that he would be looking to emulate Ashish Nehra who is has managed to keep himself fit despite his injury-plagued career his ripe age of 37. Speaking in an exclusive interview to TOI, Pathan said. “What Ashish Nehra has done is inspirational! It’s general trend to point a finger on a player when he crosses 30.”

“Ashish has given the message that it’s all about keeping yourself fit and performing well. It should always be about fitness and form instead of age. He is an inspiration to somebody like me who still wants to play at the top level. When you have played so much of cricket in different conditions, you get more experienced.”

Irfan Pathan also went onto state that he was someone who believed in performances and not in comebacks. “I am somebody who never think of comebacks. I want to play again that’s why I am still playing domestic cricket. However, I don’t want to put myself under pressure. I had made a comeback in 2012. I did well. I am still optimistic about doing well at the top level.”

“If I do that, rest will be taken care of. I won the match in West Zone Twenty20. I am selected in the West Zone team. Now I want to do well in whatever opportunities I get.”
