Is Virat Kohli the Novak Djokovic of Cricket: Novak Djokovic and Virat Kohli both have reached the pinnacle of success in their respective sports. Both of them are highly marketable athletes and have established themselves as top class professionals and have cut their teeth in numerous ads and campaigns. Both are extremely passionate and zealous in their works and always attract lot of media attention over their deeds and whereabouts.

Their attitudes are quite similar with both being extremely expressive and very aggressive on the field prompting doubters to label them as “arrogant” or “cocky”. You can see Novak ripping his shirt off in jubilation when he wins and Virat fist pumping wildly and going berserk over his joyous moments on the field. Novak Djokovic overthrew the domination of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and similarly many believe that the scepter has been passed on from Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli and that he is going to be the main man who is going to carry Indian cricket forward.

The two have their share of devout followers and haters. Virat is arguably one of the best in the business right now and has announced himself as someone with great mental fortitude and exceptional temperament that separates him from the rest. Virat was in the shadow of MS Dhoni for long and only recently took over the test captaincy from MSD.

The whole nine yards of what I’m trying to convey is that even Nole (Djokovic’s nickname) had been under the shadow of Roger and Rafa for years before emerging as equals to them at least currently. Both have been teenage prodigies and have excelled in their sports rather quickly than what one would normally expect. These two athletes are never afraid to hit the nail on the head and speak their minds very frankly.

Novak might not be the most talented player but his rock solid temperament has made him a cut above the rest. Similarly Virat may not be as talented or as pleasing to the eye as a Rohit Sharma but nonetheless has overtaken and overshadowed Rohit by miles. The abrupt emergence of these two stars in their respective sports has taken haters by rude shock and are made to seek and find new means to unnerve and criticize them. The 8 time singles grand-slam champion has a void in his trophy cabinet as he has never won the French Open. Virat Kohli too has always missed out on the IPL trophy. The long and short of the article is both these superstars are primarily similar in their attitude and the way they carry themselves. Their achievements too are quite similar and that makes me say that Kohli is the Novak Djokovic of cricket.
