It took 56 matches to determine the four final teams that would make it to the playoffs. Usually, by the mid of may, we get a clear picture of four finalists but this time around the rivalry was intense and the last match determined the final team that qualified for the knockouts. When the best players around the world compete with their counterparts, the situation is bound to get interesting.

The Rajasthan Royals sorted their team issues quite late and made it to the playoffs in quite a bizarre fashion. They needed quite a few results to go their way as the situation got tricky. Surprisingly, everything fell into place for them as they became the fourth team to make it to the final four. Inderbir Singh Sodhi or rather Ish Sodhi played a key role for the Rajasthan Royals in the league stages. The leg-spinner was happy for his team and opted for a congratulatory message in Punjabi after his franchise made it to the playoffs on Sunday.

Punjabi Swag

Sodhi took to Instagram to post a picture with his teammate Anureet Singh. He wrote: “@anureet2388 oh paaji tonu mubarakhan  @rajasthanroyals”. Sodhi is a Ludhiana-born cricketer who plays for New Zealand. He could not hide the soft corner he holds for his mother tongue.

After having played all their league matches, RR’s fate lay with the Chennai Super Kings who need to beat the Kings XI Punjab or to lose by a margin of fewer than 53 runs. The yellow army did not disappoint the RR fans as they defeated the Kings XI Punjab by 5 wickets.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 on 22nd May at the Wankhede. A day later, Rajasthan Royals square off against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in the eliminator. The playoff matches are set to begin at 7 pm IST.
