India born New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi is one of the vital cogs of the visiting side. Ever since he made a return to the national side for the Twenty 20 International series he has been in the light with notable contributions for his side. In the very first T20 match when his teammates were carted around for runs, Sodhi stood firm in the middle of the carnage with his spell of 4/25.

In his four-wicket haul, the wicket of Hardik Pandya was the most amazing dismissal as he bamboozled the all-rounder with a googly. Right through his spell, the leg-spinner kept the Indian batsmen in check while his teammates were battered very badly. In the second T20I, he played an exceptional role and put pressure on the hosts bowling tight lines and helped his team win the match.

Sodhi on getting back the tempo

Reflecting on his performance, Sodhi, said, “It was a flat wicket, the hundred by Colin Munro was special, he will remember it for the rest of his life. It started to spin in the second innings, the ball got scruffed up and started helping the bowlers. I have practised the googly a lot in the nets, wanted it to bowl at the right time. I don’t have a get out of jail delivery as much, but I want to add variety to my game. T20 is a great challenge, it’s action-packed and bowling well tonight was a great plus.”

Earlier, after losing the first T20I Sodhi had spoken about the importance of finding momentum and said, “T20 cricket is all about momentum. I think that’s just about recognising those key moments and how we can slow their momentum down. Every game we play, we try to put on our best performance and try to win for our country and we’re going to approach the same way,” he further added.

The series is now tied 1-1 with the final T20I will be played at Greenfield Stadium in Trivandrum on Tuesday. However, there is rain threat over the match.
