Teenage wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan who is an integral member of the Jharkhand squad has confirmed his availability for the upcoming 10th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after sustaining a calf muscle strain during the quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Vidarbha. He is currently out of the Deodar Trophy but is pretty confident to be fit ahead of the biggest domestic T20 tournament in the world.
During his interaction with Indian Express, he confirmed that he will be fully fit before the cash-rich league kicks off on 5th April. “I’m confident to be fit before the start of the Indian Premier and will surely be a part of my franchise team. I have also started with my workout schedules. For now, I have started running a bit”, the 18-year-old was quoted as saying.
Kishan has been retained by the Gujarat lions for whom he played 5 matches last year. Despite making only 42 runs he was cited as a future prospect and he will look to repay the faith showed in him by the Gujarat Lions franchise. The southpaw was also included in the India A squad for the warm-up ties against England and Australia after consistent performance in the domestic circuit.
Despite confirming his availability for the IPL, the youngster is a tad disappointed on missing out on the Deodhar Trophy which will be the last domestic limited overs tournament of the year. “Yeah the injury has forced me to stay out of the Deodhar trophy in this season but I’m sure I will make a rigorous recovery from this injury,” he added.
Ishan had a terrific time in the Ranji Trophy scoring 799 runs in 10 matches at an impressive average of 57.07. He also scored a magnificent 273 against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy which brought him into the limelight. He also featured in 2 matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy scoring 74 runs in the process.
