Dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has made a scintillating start to his international career, and many are backing him go a long way. The southpaw smashed showed no signs of nervousness and smashed half-centuries on his ODI and T20I debut. His ability to go after the bowlers and slam tall sixes also made fans remind of a young MS Dhoni. In fact, Kishan and Dhoni have a lot in common.

Both dashers hail from Jharkhand and are wicketkeeper-batters. However, Dhoni, who retired from international cricket last year, has already achieved the ‘legendary’ status while Kishan is just getting started. It’s a known fact that the southpaw looks up to the former Indian captain and aims to replicate his heroics in the international arena.

In a recent interaction, Kishan shed light on his bond with Dhoni. He also talked about the one thing he wants to learn from the veteran wicketkeeper-batter.

We have all seen how MS Dhoni batted from No.3 to No.6 but never complained: Ishan Kishan

“There are very few players who can give that much to their countries… We have all seen how he has batted from No.3 to No.6 but never complained and performed wherever he went. That’s something I want to do for the team to – just go out and perform wherever I get an opportunity,” Ishan told Aakash Chopra during an interview on his YouTube Channel.

Kishan further revealed that Dhoni has given him several tips about wicket-keeping. “Whenever I talk to him it’s generally about wicketkeeping or when we meet during the IPL, I share with him whatever I am feeling at that moment. For example, I’ll tell him, ‘Bhaiya, I am not able to perform after 1 good game’ and he’ll say, ‘It might be the case that your hunger goes down after one performance and you are not focusing enough,” the 23-year-old asserted.

Meanwhile, Kishan was last seen in India’s tour of Sri Lanka last month. The swashbuckler played some impressive knocks and also staked him claim in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup later this year. However, he needs to continue his stellar run in the remaining IPL 2021 to feature in the global event. Dhoni will also feature in the lucrative league and many eyes will be on his performance as well.
