Delhi captain, Ishant Sharma, recently expressed his shock over the car intrusion incident that took the cricket world by surprise last day. In a very unusual turn of events, the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh saw an interruption of epic proportions on the penultimate day’s play. A car was seen gatecrashing the stadium and rammed over the pitch whilst the game was still under progress.

The players and the officials were left absolutely bamboozled to see the proceedings take place. The car driver, who was later identified as Girish Sharma, claimed that he had lost his way and hence ended up entering the ground, being totally unaware about the match. He also went on to quote that there were no security officials at the venue and hence he did not come to know about the game.

While some laughed about the incident, the BCCI is definitely not seeing this as a humorous story. The acting BCCI chief, CK Khanna, promised strong action against the same as he sees this as a major security glitch. Several big names were on the field when the incident took place. International cricketers like Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Gautam Gambhir – were all on the ground. The venue, Air Force Grounds in Palam, certainly needs to beef up the security levels.

Many players spoke about the incident later. Rishabh Pant found it funny to see a car coming on the ground. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina found the entire scene to be very ‘disturbing’. Now, Ishant Sharma came up with a tweet calling it to be a very shocking incident. He even tagged his fellow Delhi teammate Gautam Gambhir in his tweet. It will be interesting to see what Gambhir has to say about the car intrusion gate now.

Here is the tweet

“Drive in theater just progressed to #DriveIn match. Shocking scene in between #RanjiTrophy match today witnessed with @GautamGambhir I:NDTV,” tweeted Ishant Sharma.
