David Warner‘s wife Candice has come forward and raised her voice against the injustice meted out to him by Cricket Australia (CA) over his controversial lifelong leadership ban for his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal during the Cape Town Test match against South Africa in March 2018.

It is rumoured that Steve Smith’s promotion to the Australian vice-captaincy has not gone down well with the Warner family. Smith was named the Test deputy to Pat Cummins ahead of the Ashes 2021-22 down under and has remained in that position since then. It is to be noted that even Smith was a part of the ball-tampering scandal that also involved Cameron Bancroft.

I think out of nine or 10 games he’s only lost one as captain: Candice Warner on husband David

“I think out of nine or 10 games he’s only lost one as captain,” said Candice while speaking to Triple M. “Yeah, it bothers me. I don’t like injustice, so it does bother me. My job wasn’t to question my husband, it was about supporting David at that time.”

Coming back to the controversial ‘Sandpapergate’ scandal, both Smith and Warner were handed a 12-month ban by Cricket Australia (CA) after being found guilty of the offence with the former being fined his entire match fees. The duo also lost some lucrative contracts in that season including the IPL where they had to step down as captains of the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2018 edition.

Apart from all these, CA also decided to strip Smith and Warner from their captaincy and vice-captaincy positions respectively. While Aaron Finch was named Australia’s white-ball captain, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine was appointed as the Test skipper. David Warner is currently a part of the Australian squad that is in Sri Lanka for an all-format bilateral series.
