Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq felt that the draw in Tests has been taken out of the equation in the current era and hoped for a better pitch which could produce results in the next Test between Pakistan and Australia. The historic visit for Australia to Pakistan after 24 years wasn’t as interesting as they would have liked to be with the flat pitch in Rawalpindi helping the batters immensely.

Both the sides posted totals above 400 in their first innings and the probability of a result from the Test was very much low. Pakistan played out 77 overs in their second innings on the final day without losing a wicket and that summed up the manner pitch has behaved in the first Test. Imam Ul Haq‘s twin centuries in the first Test earned him the player of the match award.

I don’t even remember the last time we saw a Test like this: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Inzamam felt that the Tests rarely end up in draw nowadays and wondered when was the last time a Test had no result. He was confident that the National Stadium in Karachi for the second Test is more likely to produce results and reckoned that Pakistan should use their home advantage to prepare spin friendly wickets.

“There was a lot of criticism over the condition of wicket in this Test. Many people were asking, ‘what is this pitch?’ I think the pitch will be better in the next Test, the one that can produce result. It feels very strange when there is a drawn Test nowadays. I don’t even remember the last time we saw a Test like this, where you knew from the first day itself that it is going to be a draw. So, definitely, the pitch is going to be more sporting (in next Test). You make turning pitch, help spinners. You utilize the home advantage, just don’t make a dead pitch,” Inzamam said on his Youtube Channel.

Haq also credited Australia for ensuring that they get near to Pakistan’s total in first innings and noted Pakistan’s probabilty of the win is higher if the pitches are curated well. The second Test between the two sides starts on the 12th of March and it will be interesting to see how the pitch behaves in Karachi.

“Even Australia adjusted really well to this pitch. I thought Pakistan would lead by 100-150 runs in the first innings, but Australia almost equalled Pakistan’s score. Australia has never backed down, but I still believe that if Pakistan curate pitches according to their strength, they can win this series,” he added.
