Virat Kohli, on Friday (March 4), became only the 12th Indian cricketer to play a whopping 100 Test matches in his career. He was felicitated by the BCCI ahead of the start of the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka. Due to bio-bubble restrictions, head coach Rahul Dravid felicitated the former India skipper while the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was seen sitting in the stands witnessing the moment.
No wonder, Kohli was delighted and termed it as a special moment. He was accompanied by his wife Anushka Sharma in the middle as well while his brother was also in the stands. The 33-year-old was also happy that his childhood hero Dravid presented him his commemorative 100th Test cap. He also acknowledged the players stating that it wouldn’t have been possible for him to play so many matches without the team’s support.
“It is a special moment for me. My wife is here and so is my brother. Everyone is very proud. It is indeed a team game and it couldn’t have been possible without you,” Kohli said.
Kohli’s suggestion to the next generation of cricketers
Virat Kohli also suggested the young cricketers to learn from him that he was able to play the longest form of the game for such a long time despite playing a lot of cricket. “In present-day cricket, with the amount we play with three formats and an IPL, the one takeaway the next generation can take from me is that I played 100 games in the purest format,” he added.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Virat Kohli will be able to end his century drought in this special Test match. He last scored an international ton in November 2019 and the fans will be eager to watch him score big soon. As for the ongoing Test match, India lost both openers inside 100 runs and Kohli is already in the middle batting with Hanuma Vihari.
What a moment to commemorate his 100th Test appearance in whites 🙌🏻
