Indian pacer Deepak Chahar has been the talk of the town lately not because of his bowling but his heroics with the bat. The young cricketer defied all the odds during the second ODI against Sri Lanka and played a stunning knock. Chasing 276 for victory in Colombo, India lost seven wickets inside 200 runs and their defeat seemed just a matter of time.

However, Chahar had other plans as he played an unbeaten knock of 69 and took India to a thrilling three-wicket triumph. Needless to mention, the cricket fraternity was left awestruck with Chahar’s special show, and heaped praises on him. Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is the latest to join the bandwagon. While lauding the 28-year-old, Kaneria credited former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, for grooming the youngster.

For the unversed, Chahar has been a part of Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings since IPL 2018. With the fast bowler’s fortunes changing after joining CSK, Kaneria said that Dhoni has left a legacy after his retirement which other players are carrying forward. He also credited the former Indian captain for off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s emergence as a world-beater.

Danish Kaneria heaps massive praises on MS Dhoni

“The legacy that MS Dhoni will leave for India, as well as CSK, will remain for a long time. The way Ravichandran Ashwin has performed in Australia, the way Deepak Chahar has performed of late, one understands that they have adapted to the requirements of the team and are following it. How to take a game deep, how to win a game when the team seems to be down and out, it is all Dhoni’s legacy,” Kaneria told in his Youtube channel.

Dhoni has indeed done a fine job in bringing the best out of many players. In fact, prominent names like Ravi Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja owe their success to him. With Dhoni retiring from international cricket after the 2019 World Cup, he is no longer a part of Team India’s set-up. Nevertheless, Kaneria believes that the talismanic wicketkeeper-batter has left his legacy which the current lot of players are carrying forward.

Meanwhile, the third and last ODI between India and Sri Lanka takes place in Colombo on Friday (July 23). With Shikhar Dhawan’s men already clinching the series 2-1, this game is a mere dead rubber. However, the visitors would still be determined to register a clean sweep. On the other hand, the home team has nothing but pride at stake.
