India cricketer Parthiv Patel reckons that Virat Kohli is more aggressive while leading his country compared to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having played for the franchise and with Kohli for the last couple of years, Parthiv has listed down a few reasons for the same. He also believes that there is a difference of approach from Kohli while leading his troops at the international level and in the IPL.
Parthiv Patel has witnessed his RCB skipper closely while playing in the cash-rich league and reckons that Kohli can’t afford to be aggressive with the players he have up his sleeves. He also pointed out that while featuring for India, the Delhi cricketer is leading the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and some high quality spinners which makes the job easy for him. But the same isn’t the case for the RCB.
Virat Kohli is always criticised for his captaincy especially in the IPL as the team has qualified for the playoffs in the last three finals. “It feels like that a lot of the times. But it matters what sort of players you have. When he captains the Indian team, he is a different captain. Because there he has Bumrah, Shami and high quality spinners, so he is always thinking wickets.
“But for RCB, I feel with whatever arsenal he has if he can afford to be aggressive. Also the ground on which he is playing also matters a lot. If you are not getting help from the wicket, we tend to go for a defensive approach. If we can restrict the opposition to 190-200, we have a chance. But if we go for wickets and concede 220-230, we are totally out of the game,” Parthiv Patel said while speaking to Aakash Chopra on his Youtube channel.
“So, that is why I feel when he captains for India he is aggressive but for RCB just because of the ground and the players he has, he is a bit defensive,” he added.
Parthiv Patel tells difference in captaincy between Rohit, Kohli and Dhoni
Parthiv Patel has been around for quite some time now and at some or the other level, has played under all three Indian captains, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. When asked to rate them as the leaders of the teams, he preferred to stay safe and stated that each of the three players possess different captaincy styles.
“They are different. Dhoni and Rohit keep the dressing room calm while Virat makes sure that everyone is on their toes and everyone keeps pushing themselves,” the wicketkeeper-batsman further said.
