Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar hailed Virat Kohli’s performance in the 2nd ODI against Australia at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Gavaskar heaped praise on the skipper, as the batsman made certain adjustments to take on Steve Smith’s Australia. India beat the visitors by a margin of 50 runs after Kohli sparkled with the bat, scoring 92 off 107 balls. India posted 252 on the board.
After the heroics of Kohli, it was the turn of the bowlers to make an impact. And once again the hosts managed to trouble Australia. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav achieved a hat-trick while rest of the units basked in the special glory. The visitors failed to chase the total and struggled against the Indian bowlers.
“It was a very good innings, absolutely terrific. Some of the shots that he played when the ball bounced just a little more than anticipated showed the class of the man” Gavaskar told NDTV. “His partnership with Rahane, that was needed at the point of time with India having lost the prolific Rohit Sharma early on. It was not an easy pitch to bat on. All the batsmen who got half-centuries deserve that credit.”
Gavaskar on bowlers
Gavaskar also praised the bowlers and mentioned the performance of the spinners too. “We have got to give credit to the two young bowlers with the way they are bowling and the confidence that they have shown. Remember Kuldeep Yadav was taken for a couple of sixes and Virat Kohli did a smart thing by giving him a little time and he came back and bowled superbly.”
India will look to seal the fate of the series in the 3rd ODI, and the skipper Kohli would expect similar performance from his bowlers. From visitors point of view, the next game is a must win for them; and therefore they will go out all guns blazing to win it.
