One of the many young cricketers who has risen through the ranks under Virat Kohli‘s captaincy is Rishabh Pant, who is slowly cementing his spot in the team across all formats. After a few big scores in Tests against England and Windies, he finally earned his ODI cap and has given himself an opportunity to fight for the World Cup squad.

Despite not getting a chance to bat in the first innings, the youngster did show some glimpses of what he has in his arsenal. Yet, Pant has a long way to go in proving himself as a capable finisher and will be keen to take that spot as MS Dhoni’ successor.

Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope battled hard against a strong Indian bowling lineup to earn a draw. The Windies certainly got into the driver’s seat for a good period of time, but they bottled the advantage with a poor finish in the final 10 overs. Despite so much action happening around, only one man hogged all the limelight and he’s the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Thank you for inspiring youngsters like us

Kohli remained unbeaten on 157 in the first innings and on his way, he went past 10,000 ODI runs. He became the fastest in the format’s history to breach the mark and surpassed his childhood icon, Sachin Tendulkar. This century was his 37th in ODIs and 61st overall in International cricket.

The young middle-order batsman was full of praises for his skipper and tweeted his elation out with a beautiful message. Apart from congratulating him on his achievement, he also thanked him for inspiring many youngsters to play the gentleman’s game.

“Congratulations Virat bhai on being the fastest player to reach 10000 runs in ODI. It is a privilege for me to be playing in the same team and same era as you do. Thank u for all the inspiration you give to youngsters like us! Here’s to more & more runs from your bat!” Rishabh said via his official Twitter handle.
