Moeen Ali has expressed his excitement to play under MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings side in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2021 season. The England spin-bowling all-rounder was bought for INR 7 crores by the franchise. During a recent interaction, Ali shared his thoughts on why MS Dhoni is such a highly-rated captain.
The England all-rounder was with the national team for their limited-overs series against India. After the tour ended in Pune, Ali joined the CSK camp in Mumbai. The off-spinner is expected to be CSK’s frontline overseas pick for the upcoming season. Considering the amount of money that the franchise has spent on him, he might have a spot in the starting XI.
The 33-year-old said that he has talked with many players who have played under Dhoni, all of whom have said that the CSK captain has helped them improve their game. He further noted that every player has a desire to play under the captaincy of Dhoni.
Important to have strong leadership and coaches who take the pressure off the players: Moeen Ali credits CSK management
“I’ve spoken to players who have played under MS and they tell me how he improves their game. I believe a great captain does that,” Ali was quoted saying by the official CSK website. “It’s something on every player’s wish list to play under MS. I think it’s the confidence and the clarity he gives people. It’s exciting,” he stated.
Ali, who himself has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier in the IPL, talked about the aspects which makes CSK a different team than others. “I think what differentiates CSK from other teams is actually how they structure everything… from the squad they have to the way they do things. They look a very calm franchise that doesn’t panic,” he further said.
The English all-rounder further noted that CSK has strong leaders and coaches who can take the pressure off the players. The franchise has had former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming as it’s head coach since 2009 while MS Dhoni has led them since 2008.
“At CSK I feel the reality is there for us to win the competition. I’m excited about playing with the players we have here. It’s very important to have strong leadership and coaches who stay calm, who take the pressure off the players as much as they can and are consistent. We are very lucky we have that,” Ali concluded.
