Virat Kohli is perhaps the only captain in the world who finds winning a match easier than winning the toss. While no one has any command over the toss, Kohli’s record with it absolutely staggering. The 32-year old hardly wins the toss which plays a very important role in determining the outcome of a cricket match.

His struggle was recently seen when India hosted England for a full-fledged series at home. In this entire series comprising four Tests, five T20Is, and three ODIs, Kohli lost 10 tosses out of 12. His poor record with toss is not limited to the recent series against England. He has found himself on the wrong side of the toss result more often than not against England.

In 35 games against England as captain across formats, Kohli has been on the winning side of the toss just eight times. Overall, Kohli has won the toss in only 85 of the 200 matches that he has led India in. The India skipper’s toss win/loss ratio of 0.74 is the worst among Indian captains who have led for at least 100 games.

Virat Kohli on finally winning a toss

Virat Kohli has started his campaign in IPL 2021 on a good note as he finally won a toss and his reaction said it all. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper saw the flip of the coin going in his favour against Mumbai Indians in the first game of IPL 2021 and he could not hide his excitement. Kohli called it unbelievable and joked that the mini-break might have helped him win the toss. He also decided to bowl first against the defending champions.

“It’s unbelievable, bit of a mini-break helped me I guess to win a toss. Going to bowl first. They’re a side who likes chasing. Good chance for us to get onto the park and create some intensity. With the balance we have this year we can do both, but have to understand who you’re playing against. We understand with the depth they have they have never out of the game. Bowling first was a no-brainer for us,” he said at the toss.
