After the loss in the Champions Trophy final in 2017, India have changed approach in the middle-overs and have reaped rewards. The introduction of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav has paid rich dividends as the leg-spin duo has tormented most batting line-ups in the world. They are now a vital part of India’s white-ball plans. The two of them have had massive success in 50-overs cricket.

While Chahal has picked up 71 wickets in 40 ODIs, Kuldeep has done better. He has taken 77 wickets in just 39 ODIs. However, the duo enjoys bowling alongside each other and have formed a potent pair. Kuldeep Yadav revealed that he has learnt a lot from his partner-in-crime, Chahal. He feels in order to become a good spinner, one needs to overcome the fear and that’s what both Kuldeep and Chahal have done.

“When you play together regularly, you learn from your partner. So I’ve learnt a lot from him [Chahal]. Whenever we play together, we try and improve together. You can’t become a good spinner if you don’t overcome that fear and just think wickets. That’s what Chahal and I have done. The middle overs are important in ODIs. If you don’t attack, teams will get 320, so the focus is on picking up wickets in the middle overs,” Kuldeep was quoted saying by ESPNCricinfo.

If you’re playing with the white ball regularly, it becomes easy to adjust: Kuldeep

Since the 2015 World Cup, Kuldeep Yadav is the second highest wicket-taker for India in ODI cricket. The chinaman has taken 77 wickets at an average of 20.64 and a strike-rate of 25.9. Moreover, he has had a very good economy as well (4.77). He’s become a threatening bowler in white-ball cricket and teams have often played him out.

He feels that playing continuous white-ball cricket helps him to adjust. “If you’re playing with the white ball regularly, it becomes easy to adjust. I’m more settled in white-ball cricket, I never feel any pressure,” Kuldeep said, in the same interview.
