England fast bowler James Anderson is a man to fear at home. The overcast conditions and helpful pitches along with his own swing bowling abilities make a lethal bowler. The right-arm swing bowler added more reputation to his name after he broke Australian legend Glenn McGrath’s record of most Test wickets at home.
The Lancashire pacer went past McGrath (289 wickets at home) when he got his 290th wicket in England by trapping Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali leg before wicket (LBW). Anderson jolted the Pakistan’s top-order after striking twice on the fourth day of the Manchester Test after his side declared on 173/1, setting the visitors a mammoth target of 565.
Anderson’s dominance at home can be understood by the fact that 290 of his 457 Test wickets have come at home. His presence in the team has been very crucial in England’s success. He is a very important part of the team and holds the capability completely change the graphs of the match all on his own.
A recent example can be the ongoing test series against Pakistan. England clearly missed the services of their bowling spearhead and faced a debacle in the first test at Lord’s. He was rested due to a shoulder trouble and the effect of his absence was clearly visible.
However, England has so far bossed over the opposition with the ball upon his return at Old Trafford. After taking 1/27 in the first innings, Anderson struck twice in the twilight of the fourth day to put the hosts on course to an easy win while defending 565.
