Australian speedster, James Pattinson continued his successful run in the County Championship as he has picked up 31 wickets so far in the 5 matches he has played. Pattinson, who plays for Nottingham in Division 2, missed four Championship matches due to national duties as he was a part of the Australian team in the recently concluded Champions Trophy.
Australians had to return home in the league round itself with Pattinson not featuring in any of the three games they played in the tournament. He returned to the English domestic in place of India’s Chetheswar Pujara who was signed by the Notts as in term replacement in absence of Pattinson.
Before joining Australian squad, Pattinson grabbed 17 wickets in just 3 games and marked his return in style by taking 8 wickets vs Leicestershire including a 5-fer. In the first round of the Day/Night matches, Pattinson struck thrice in his first 3 overs against Kent to increase his tally to 31 wickets in the season. At end of 1st innings in the 5th match he played, Pattinson has picked 31 wickets at an average of 10.45 striking at every 22.1 balls and has taken two five-fers. He enjoyed decent success in the Royal One-Day Cup by taking 12 wickets in the 9 games he played; the joint most by any Nottingham bowler in the tournament.
Pattinson’s success wasn’t limited to bowling only as he has scored 193 runs in the 4 innings he has batted so far at an average of 64.33. He has scored two fifties in those 4 innings including his first-class career best of an unbeaten 89, which came against Leicestershire in his very first innings in the County Championship. He followed it with a 59 in the next game over the Durham, his only the 5th fifty in FC cricket.
