The two are in the form of their lives though they are not playing each other. While former Australia captain Steve Smith continues with his superhuman touch with the bat in the ongoing Ashes by slamming the third ton in four outings, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been outshining everybody else in the circuit of late.
The skiddy paceman recently completed 50 wickets in Tests as one of the fastest and also grabbed a hat-trick against the West Indies in Jamaica. Cricket lovers have now started believing if Bumrah would be the only bowler in the world at the moment to dismiss Smith who is looking unstoppable.
Smith scores the third century in three Tests
Smith, who is playing his first Test series in over a year after serving a year-long ban that he got following the Sandpapergate scandal, slammed 211 in the ongoing fourth Test match at Old Trafford to take his team to a strong position. He scored 142 and 144 in the two innings of the first match at Edgbaston and then made 92 in the only outing he had at Lord’s.
A physical blow from a bouncer from Jofra Archer saw Smith missing out in the second innings and also in the next Test at Leeds that England won miraculously. Smith was back in Manchester and hit another ton, this time a double. This is also his sixth hundred in last eight Tests against England and he overtook India captain Virat Kohli to become the No.1 batter in the longer format.
ESPNCricinfo recently came up with a question on Instagram asking which bowler would one call up to stop Smith who is batting without a flaw. Former England pacer Darren Gough replied saying Bumrah. The options that ESPNCricinfo gave included, besides Bumrah, the names like James Anderson, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Ravindra Jadeja, Jofra Archer, Yasir Shah, and Rangana Herath. Gough was cent percent sure that he would call Bumrah to pick Smith’s wicket.
