Renowned for his humility and his composure in crunch situations, Jasprit Bumrah’s rise to the top in world rankings is both inspirational as well as heartening. It is incredible to see a cricketer with an international career spanning only 2 years old, already carrying the reputation of being the best death bowler in the world.

There have been numerous instances already where Bumrah has been entrusted with the old ball during the death, under pressure situations, and the Baroda bowler coming out with flying colours by defending even less than 10 runs required in an over on several occasions.

Be it against England recently at Nagpur in a T20 affair or defending the requisite runs in the super-over against Gujarat Lions this season of the IPL for Mumbai Indians, Bumrah has come out triumphant in more or less every situation during the nerve-wracking last over of the match.

In the series-deciding Kanpur ODI against New Zealand, the Kiwis were almost on the cusp of victory with 50 needed off the last 30 deliveries. Had it not been the final three overs of Jasprit Bumrah bowling full and straight giving nothing away to the batsman, it would have been highly improbable for India to win their seventh consecutive bilateral series win. Bumrah managed to defend 15 runs off the last over and India won the match by a margin of 6 runs.

“I mostly try to keep my head calm. I think that gives the best chance to execute. Just focus on the match and focus ball-by-ball and try to execute. I try to watch the ball till the end. I lock the ball and try to execute it. It was difficult to bowl because of dew. You have to back yourselves and I was trying to do that. This is how cricket goes,” claimed Bumrah after his matchwinning spell.

Jasprit Bumrah then received the icing on the cake after being crowned as the number one T20I bowler in the world. He then took to Twitter to celebrate the occasion with an inspirational message.
