India’s ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah is easily considered as the x-factor in the Indian team setup. The 27-year-old made his debut for the Men in Blue in a One Day International against Australia in January 2016. Immediately after his debut, Bumrah made headlines due to his unorthodox bowling action and his variations including the toe-crushing yorkers.
The right-arm seamer has been lauded by many legendary pacers as they backed him to script history in the cricket fraternity. Former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad also seemed highly impressed with Bumrah. Detailing his opinion on Bumrah’s unorthodox bowling action, Prasad asserted that the speedster’s action matches with that of Sri Lanka’s veteran seamer Lasith Malinga.
The former Indian cricketer believes that Bumrah bowls like 11 o’ clockish and that makes it difficult for the batters to understand the delivery properly. Also, it creates doubt among the batsmen and that is the main secret behind Bumrah’s unprecedented success in the world of cricket.
“Bumrah is a completely different bowler because of his unorthodox action and is like Lasith Malinga. Bumrah comes like 11 o’ clockish and not the other side. He is opposite to Malinga and it’s not easy to pick such bowlers.
“That creates doubt because a batsman is not sure if it’s coming into them or pitching straight. So that’s why he is much more successful. His unique action is helping him a lot, actually. Indeed, it’s a combination of a lot of things,” Prasad told Cricket.com.
The game has been evolving so is pace bowling: Venkatesh Prasad
The shortest format of the game, T20I format, has been gaining a lot of limelight and viewership all across the globe. Speaking about the 20-over format, Venkatesh reckoned that it feels great to see the bowlers coming up with unique deliveries like off-cutter, off-cutter bouncer, the knuckleball, and different types of a yorker.
“The game has been evolving so is pace bowling. Runs are being made at a rapid pace in Test cricket and similarly, in T20, the variations you see in bowling are amazing. Back of the hand, off-cutter, off-cutter bouncer then knuckleball and even yorker itself has gone into so many variations,” added Prasad.
