Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc or Lasith Malinga: Aakash Chopra names his pick to bowl a Super Over

Former Indian opener and current commentator Aakash Chopra picked pace sensation, Jasprit Bumrah as his favourite pick in the world to bowl the Super Over. Talking on this YouTube channel, he picked five bowlers to begin his reasoning and boiled down to Bumrah as the best pick among all of them. His list included Sunil Narine, Rashid Khan, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc, and Lasith Malinga.

Starting with the spinners, he feels that Narine can’t justify job as he’s not much effective with his altered balling action. Chopra placed Rashid Khan over Malinga and Narine. However, he said that it won’t go with him either as it’s not a fair idea to hand a ball to the spinner for the 20^th over.

Chopra stated he would’ve gone with Malinga, had he been on prime of his career. Chopra said– “Lasith Malinga, the lion might have grown old but has not forgotten how to catch its prey.”

It was a close call between Starc and Bumrah. The former can ace reverse swinging yorkers from different lines and angles, but Bumrah possesses unique bowling style and accuracy which makes him stand out. Chopra also stated that nationality comes into play which choosing among these two as Australians would go with Starc but Indians would go hands down with Bumrah.

Explaining inclination towards Bumrah, Chopra stated “Being an Indian and having seen him from close quarters, I will go with him. Jasprit Bumrah will be my pick ahead of Mitchell Starc because Starc may bowl a boundary ball once in a while but Bumrah with his accurate slower ones and yorkers and different style of action makes him special.”

“Jasprit Bumrah, I remember a Super Over he had bowled against Gujarat Lions where they had Brendon McCullum and I think Dwayne Smith, one of the West Indian batsmen and they couldn’t touch the ball with the bat. In between, he bowled a no-ball as well, despite that he was not hit for runs,” he added.

Hence, Chopra concluded his statements by declaring Bumrah as his best Super Over pick over the likes of Starc, Narine, Rashid and Malinga. “So I will go with Bumrah if I have these 5 options,” concluded Chopra.
