Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the back of some fine bowling performance, got back to winning ways, defeating Mumbai Indians last night in match 31 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 that played out to be a thriller. However, during the match, missed out on a golden chance to see the back of Virat Kohli as they failed to realize that he had edged the ball.

The incident happened in the 14th over of RCB’s innings, when MI speedster Jasprit Bumrah bowled a back of the length delivery to Kohli which he edged to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. But neither the bowler nor wicketkeeper or anyone from the Mumbai camp went for an appeal and thus the on-field umpire Nitin Menon couldn’t intervene. The replays also showed that Kohli had edged the ball. Even the snick-o-meter confirmed the moment when the ball went past Kohli’s bat.

Bumrah after the end of the innings was asked about it and he said he got to know from the dugout that the RCB skipper had indeed edged the ball and was actually out. The incident didn’t really hurt the team as Kohli was dismissed by Hardik Pandya without a lot of damage.

He said, “I got to hear from dug-out that he (Virat Kohli) was out and I heard that it was an edge. I didn’t hear the edge, even the wicketkeeper didn’t hear it. But that’s ok. In the next over Hardik (Pandya) got his wicket so I am really happy.”

The RCB skipper, however, managed to add only 8 runs after this incident as he lost his wicket to Pandya in the 18th over. Earlier, a disciplined bowling effort by MI restricted RCB to a moderate 167/7 after winning the toss. For RCB, Manan Vohra was the top-scorer with 45 runs followed by Brendon McCullum who added 37.

On the other hand, for the defending champions, Hardik was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/28 while Mayank Markande, McClenaghan and Jasprit Bumrah bagged a wicket each. Mumbai failed the chase the target down and lost the match by 14 runs.
