Jhulan Goswami felicitated by Air India for contribution to Indian Cricket

The 34-year old recently made history when she broke Cathryn Fitzpatrick's record to become the highest wicket-taker in Women's One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Prolific Indian cricketer, Jhulan Goswami was felicitated by leading airline, Air India, on Monday for her immense contribution to Indian Cricket. She was also promoted to the post of Manager in the esteemed organisation. One of the fastest women bowlers that the game has ever produced, Goswami was a part of the Women’s World Cup finalist Indian side.

The 34-year old recently made history when she broke Cathryn Fitzpatrick’s record to become the highest wicket-taker in Women’s One-Day Internationals (ODIs). She has scalped 195 wickets in 164 ODIs till date, at an average of 21.95. Goswami played a crucial role in India’s campaign at the Women’s Cricket World Cup and picked up 10 wickets in 9 matches for 266 runs.

Jhulan Goswami honoured by Air India

Goswami was honoured by her employer, Air India, and promoted to the post of Manager in the organisation. She was previously a Deputy Manager at the firm. Further, she was handed a citation and a cheque worth Rs 50,000 by Air India Regional Director (Eastern) Capt. Rohit Bhasin.

Reacting to the news of her promotion, Jhulan Goswami said, “The Air India CMD had called me in Delhi and I was offered the promotion. I am very happy at the news and I feel honoured. I have been a proud employee of this institution. It feels great when you are recognised by your own organisation.” She had been employed with Air India in the commercial department since 2006.

Goswami, who has previously captained India, also thanked the airlines for their constant support that helped in shaping her career and said, “Air India is like my extended family and I feel extremely happy to be honoured by my organisation. I shall always remember the contribution made by Air India to make me what I am now. It has been extending all support to me and players like me who have been able to leave some mark in different sports for India during our formative years.”
