Joe Root surges into the top 5 of the ODI batsmen's ranking

England beat Pakistan 4-1 in the 5-match One-Day International series as it witnessed a run feast from the England batsmen and also the biggest ever ODI team total. The home team completely dominated the series and lost just the last match.

England batsman Joe Root who was the second leading run-scorer in the series with 274 runs from 5 matches jumped to No. 4 in the ODI batsmen’s rankings. Root leapfrogged to number four, pulling off New Zealand’s duo of Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill and India’s Rohit Sharma one place back.

During the series, he also achieved the career-best rating of 776 points after the 85 in the third ODI against Pakistan. Along with Root, three other England batsmen moved up in the rankings – Alex Hales, England skipper Eoin Morgan and the opening batsman Jason Roy.

Hales rose four places to reach 20th spot whereas Morgan also gained four spots and is now on the 24th position. With 181 runs in the series, Jason Roy moved up 10 places to share the 35th rank with Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal.

Despite losing the series Pakistan’s, Sarfraz Ahmed was the leading run-getter of the series (with 300 runs) which saw him move 21 places up to 39th position. Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali with an aggregate of 208 runs in the series moved 15 places to 33rd spot in the rankings.

George Bailey, who had a dream series against Sri Lanka moved 3 places at reach the 17th rank. Aaron Finch who recorded the joint fastest fifty by an Australia in ODIs also moved 3 places to climb up to the 15th spot in the rankings.

Among bowlers, Australia’s Mitchell Starc moved up from fifth to the third place whereas his fellow teammate James Faulkner’s 10 wickets have helped him gain 15 places to reach 18th position. John Hastings who recorded his career-best bowling figures has also moved to his career-best ranking of 24.

In the rankings for all-rounders led by Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Australia’s James Faulkner moved up a slot to the third position.
