Jofra Archer shown as a Pakistani player in a big blunder committed in the PSL

The third edition of the Pakistan Super League(PSL) has kick-started and there is some great entertainment on the cards already. After a mind-boggling opening ceremony, three matches were played in the tournament thus far. Multan Sultans, who is debuting in the PSL this year had a great start and have won both the games that they have played in the tournament thus far.

Although everything seems to be cruising along nicely in the tournament, the PSL has already been surrounded by a major controversy early in the league. In the second game between the Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings, there was a major error in the playing XI that was aired on the television. West Indian player, Jofra Archer was shown as a Pakistani cricketer and this didn’t go down well with many of the fans.

When the team line-ups were posted on Twitter, Archer’s nationality wasn’t mentioned. The nation wasn’t mentioned for all the Pakistani players as well. This indicates that Archer was considered to be one of the local players stirring up a major controversy. The officials possibly forgot to mention Archer’s nationality, who was included in the squad as the fourth overseas player.

Shane Watson(Australia), Kevin Pietersen(England) and Rilee Rossouw (South Africa) who were the other overseas players had their nation mentioned next to their names. The error was highlighted by Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq, who wrote, “When you are unsure of Jofra Archer’s nationality so you just class him as Pakistani #PSL2018 #Cricket.” Archer has made it to the headlines recently with impressive performances in BBL and when he was picked by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

The nationality of the player not indicated is a huge blunder from the officials. This was very strange and also took many fans by surprise when they were trying to search for the fourth overseas player in the team. Despite being born in West Indies, Archer holds a British passport and has expressed his intention to play international cricket for England. Quetta Gladiators had earlier picked Archer as a replacement for all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite.
