England are currently leading their five-match Test series against India 2-0 and have arguably been the dominant force. Joe Root’s men stumbled a wee bit in the opening Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham but eventually managed to come out trumps by 31 runs. The second Test turned out to be a drab affair as the home team annihilated Virat Kohli’s men by an innings and 159 runs.

While the Indian bowling has been up to the mark, their batting has faltered miserably. Their approach has drawn criticism and former cricketers like Sourav Ganguly has mentioned that India are likely to end up losing 5-0 if they don’t relook at their tactics. However, despite India’s lacklustre performance thus far, Jonny Bairstow doesn’t want complacency to sneak into the English camp.

A lot of cricket still to be played in the series

“It is too early to be talking about 5-0. The weather could get hot again, the pitches at Southampton and the Oval could be dry. We definitely will not be taking our foot off the pedal. Obviously, that would be the dream — to put in five complete performances and have five wins. But, it’s important we don’t get complacent, arrogant, or look too far ahead,” Bairstow was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

He also doesn’t want to write India off completely going ahead in the series. “Yes, we have exploited the conditions and we know how to play in home conditions, but I do not think you can say that India are vulnerable. They are the number one side in the world for a reason and there is a lot of cricket still to be played in the series,” the 28-year-old cricketer added.

The third Test will be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham from August 18 and another slip up will see India lose the series. England, on the contrary, would be hoping to win and seal the fate of the series. The fourth and final Test will be played at The Rose Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively.
