South African batsman JP Duminy faces the axe as South Africa prepare to take on England in the second Test at Trent Bridge. Skipper Faf du Plessis who missed the first match confirmed the news.

JP Duminy’s two-inning journey at Lords was marked by dismal performances. He made scores 15 and 2 in the Test in which the Proteas suffered 211 run defeat. His dismissal in the second innings drew massive criticism as he failed to hold his wicket just before tea.

Du Plessis WAS IN South Africa during the first Test to provide mental support to his wife Imari who gave birth to their first child. The birth was reported to be a difficult one which forced the skipper to extend his stay.

With Du Plessis back for the second round, JP Duminy finds himself out of the eleven. With South Africa’s most lethal weapon Kagiso Rabada suspended for the second Test, that place is also up for grabs. Duanne Olivier, Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo are the possible contenders and the Proteas could take in two of them. In that case, Theunis de Bruyn will have to sit out on the bench at Trent Bridge.

The first Test

Hosts England cruised to victory in the first test with heroics with the bat and ball from Moeen Ali. Batsman Joe Root made his debut as a captain after taking over from Alastair Cook, and he made it memorable for himself. His 190 run knock in the first inning steadied the England ship when they needed the most. The South African batting was not up to the mark on both occasions which gave away the match to the Three Lions. Moeen Ali bagged the Man of the Match award for his brilliant 10 wicket haul. He contributed with the bat too, scoring 87 runs in the first inning.
