It has been nearly a decade since Cheteshwar Pujara made his debut for Team India but is not known for his bowling at all. And the reasons are obvious. In his decade-long career so far, he has bowled just one over in international cricket. So far, he has played 75 Tests as well as 5 One-day Internationals but has bowled only six deliveries.

No surprises then that he is not rated very highly as a bowler. However, on Friday, he left everyone surprised with his bowling exploits while playing for Saurashtra against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy game. In fact, Pujara was himself surprised too as he celebrated wildly after picking up a wicket in the final over of second day’s play.

The Saurashtra superstar dismissed Mohit Jangra with his leg-spin bowling to end Uttar Pradesh’s innings. And following the dismissal, he celebrated in an uncharacteristic manner. Pujara, who is known for his shy nature, celebrated the wicket in an animated manner. As soon as Jangra edged the ball to slip, Pujara took off for a short sprint in celebration, punching the air in delight before being mobbed by his teammates.

Shikhar Dhawan trolls Cheteshwar Pujara

Meanwhile, India star Shikhar Dhawan could not help but troll Cheteshwar Pujara after seeing his wicket celebration. It all happened when Pujara himself took to Instagram to post a clip of his celebration.

“The day when I changed my Batsman status to an All-rounder,” Pujara wrote. And Dhawan soon stole the show with his comment. The India opener hilariously took a dig at Pujara’s running between the wickets, commenting: “Bhai kabhi itne tez sprint running karte waqt bhi maar liya kar. Well bowled waise.” Ravichandran Ashwin also commented on the video, writing: “Incredible!! It’s time to bowl more,” Ashwin wrote.

Talking about the game, Uttar Pradesh are in driver’s seat in the game after taking a mammoth lead of 192 runs in the first innings. After bowling out Saurashtra for 331, Uttar Pradesh piled up 523. Mohammad Saif top-scored for his side with 165 while Akshdeep Nath (95), Rinku Singh (71) and Aryan Juyal (52) also made useful contributions.
