Not many differ from others when it comes to picking the best batsman of contemporary cricket. India captain Virat Kohli is picked as the favourite more often than not by experts and supporters both from India and abroad and the latest to join the list is senior Pakistan wicket-keeper-batsman Kamran Akmal.

In a recent interactive session with the fans on Twitter, the 38-year-old was asked to pick his favourite from Kohli, Steve Smith and Joe Root and his vote went for the India skipper.

Kohli has continued with his good form with both the willow and the captaincy. He is currently the No.1 batsman in the world in Tests and ODIs while in the T20Is, he is ranked ninth. The 31-year-old has scored over 21,000 international runs across formats after making his debut in 2008 and has belted 70 tons so far. He averages above 50 in all the three formats and has been one of India’s best match-winning batsmen.

Kamran Akmal frustrated of late over not being picked for Pakistan

Kamran, who last played for Pakistan in 2017, has been in the news recently for taking on the selectors for not giving him a chance to make a national comeback. He has been offering his services but it has not made much of a difference.

Last year, he was severely critical of the Pakistan team after they failed to deliver in the 50-over World Cup in England and even urged Imran Khan, the current prime minister of his country, to take steps over non-performance.

Last month, he expressed his frustration over not getting picked and asked whether he would have to ask the PM to make it to the national team. He alleged that despite performing in the domestic circuit, he was not getting his due.

Recently, Kamran, who played his last match for Central Punjab in his country’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, came to the rescue of his brother Umar Akmal after the latter faced a ban for allegedly misbehaving during a fitness test, saying he was only joking and did not mean to offend anybody. Kamran himself was also in a spot of bother as skipped two fitness tests and failed after appearing for it eventually.
