World Cup-winning captain of India, Kapil Dev, opened up about how three cricketers by the names of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni changed the face of Indian cricket with their respective contribution to the country.

Kapil Dev, who himself has been responsible for being an inspiration to many of generations of cricketers with the help of India’s famous victory in the 1983 World Cup, singled out three players and the role they played in transforming the way the sport had been played.

“All three are different kinds of cricketers. They brought a new generation of people to the grounds. That was very important,” claimed Kapil Dev while talking to International Business Times during the Krishnapatnam Golden Eagles’ Golf Championship in Bengaluru.

“Sachin was instrumental, playing for 24 years and inspiring so many people to take up the game. Virender Sehwag changed the style of modern-day cricket,” revealed the former Indian cricketer.

“And Dhoni, coming from a small town, made it big. Every Indian now feels he can belong to a small town and still dream of becoming like Dhoni,” stated Dev while citing out the role MSD played in bringing the change in mentality.

On Virat Kohli

Dev further heaped praises for Indian captain Virat Kohli who, despite turbulences within the Board, did not let external factors affect India’s performances and stood like a Rock of Gibraltar in the contemporary times.

“Well done, Team India. We can feel happy today. Indian team is once again dominating world cricket in every format of the game. Despite so many issues in the board, in the court, the players are performing well. As a person who always believes in fitness, it is nice to see this. Cricket has reached such a level that your fitness is more important than your ability to get runs or wickets. That is huge change in our country,” concluded the 58-year-old.
