Karun Nair expresses joy after selection for Kings XI Punjab

Karun Nair first came to limelight with a spectacular triple-century against England in his debut Test. However, he has underperformed thereafter and subsequently, lost his place in the side. He had a pretty mediocre season in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, playing for the Delhi Daredevils. He struggled to find his touch in the tournament and was dropped for a few games.

However, he gained back his touch and scored a jaw-dropping 48-ball century against Jharkhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, which grabbed the headlines. He was also the third highest run-scorer in the tournament with a staggering strike-rate of 174. Nair has duly been rewarded as he was snapped by the Kings XI Punjab for 5.6 crores in the ongoing IPL auctions in Bangalore.

He started with a base price of 50 Lakhs, but teams went into a bidding war to grab the batsman. Rajasthan Royals tried hard to bag him, but eventually backed out. Delhi Daredevils had the Right to Match card for Nair, however, they preferred to not use it for him. Nevertheless, the Karnataka cricketer was delighted by his selection in the team and he expressed his ecstasy and jubilation on Twitter.

Journey in the IPL

Karun Nair commenced his Indian Premier League endeavour, playing for the Rajasthan Royals and immediately impressed for them. However, he moved to the Delhi Daredevils thereafter and played a couple of seasons for them. Kings XI Punjab is the cricketer’s third franchise in the event and his role with the bat will be crucial for Punjab in the tournament’s upcoming edition.

He couldn’t perform as per expectations in the 207 season and will look to make amends. Also, he will be eyeing for a comeback in the Indian national team on the basis of some strong performances in the Indian domestic T20 league.
