At the moment, it would seem as though Karnataka batsman Karun Nair is in a good place. Having captained his domestic side to victory in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while doing quite well himself in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament as well is certainly something that brings out a lot when it comes to the batsman’s confidence in a tournament that is highly competitive and something that he has done rather well in the past as well.

In hindsight, the Kings XI Punjab have been quite impressed with their buys and seem to have a rather strong squad of players who potentially can get the job done. While it certainly brings up the ‘good problem’ of selection, it also brings into question the fact whether players can win matches on their own or now. Karun is one of the only two cricketers who has a triple-century to his name in Test cricket for India.

“Problem of plenty, it is a good thing to have. Many teams do not have such options this season. We are in a happy place,” the right-hander told Express. “Also, it is a good thing to have players who can win matches on their own. But as far as I am concerned, you can only win a tournament if all 11 players contribute. Everyone has to contribute some way or the other. It is good to have match-winners, but we have to play as a team to clinch the title.”

The confidence level is quite high

Speaking about his own form, Nair went ahead and said that he is indeed looking forward to playing alongside some of the biggest names for the Kings XI.

“Obviously, my confidence level is quite high. I scored two hundreds in the domestic T20s, and I am looking forward to a good season with Kings XI. I will try and play normal cricket, and my aim will be to help win matches. I have done well in the opening slot, but I am ready to bat at any position that the management wants me to.”
