Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has emerged as one of the best limited-overs batting superstars in the last few years by showcasing consistent performances. He currently holds the number one position in the ICC men’s ODI and T20I rankings for batters and only seems to be growing from strength to strength.

Speaking about the T20I rankings,  Babar recently surpassed batting megastar Virat Kohli’s record to emerge as the top-ranked batter in the format for the longest period. However, when asked about how the Pakistani sensation felt about achieving this unique feat by getting past his Indian counterpart, Azam first asked which record before coming up with a humble reply.

On June 29, Babar became the longest-reigning No. 1 T20I batter, surpassing Virat Kohli’s total of 1,013 days during his reign last decade.

There is hard work involved: Babar Azam

During a press conference ahead of Pakistan’s two-Test series against Sri Lanka, Babar was asked about surpassing Virat Kohli‘s record in the shortest format after which he paused the reporter for a moment and asked “Kaun sa?” (Which one?).

When Babar was made aware of his new feat, he came up with a humble reply saying, “I would like to thank god. There is hard work involved and that is why I have been able to give good performances.”

Apart from this record, Babar also succeeded in breaking another one of Kohli’s unique records during the home series against the West Indies last month. He scored 1000 runs as captain in fewer innings. While it took Kohli 17 innings to score 1000 One Day International runs, all it took Babar was 13.

Coming back to Pakistan’s bilateral series against Sri Lanka, the first Test will be played at the Galle International Stadium on July 16 whereas the second and final game will be held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on July 24. Pakistan will also be playing a three-day warm-up game against the Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI between July 11 to 13.
