Indian batsman KL Rahul had a sensational run in the recently concluded edition of the Indian Premier League. He played for the Kings XI Punjab in the tournament and emerged as the leading run-getter for his side. He looked in sublime form and had hit the fastest fifty in the IPL history in the very first game that he played in the season. Now, the IPL is done and dusted and the focus of the players has shifted back to the international cricket.

The preparations for the marquee ICC event, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 has already begun. Much like every other cricketer, even KL Rahul aspires to play in the World Cup. He remarked that it is his childhood dream to play the World Cup. And if the situation demands, he is ready to play at number four position on the Indian side. With Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in the frame, it will be tough for Rahul to make the cut as an opener.

“My childhood dream is to play the World Cup and if the team management wants me to bat No 4, I am ready to do it because nothing is bigger than playing for India. I hope to continue with my recent form in ODIs too,” KL Rahul was quoted as saying by TOI.

“Right now my aim is to score runs for my country and it doesn’t matter if it is coming as an opener or in the middle order. As long as I am performing these things don’t matter but the final decision is taken by the team management. If they want me to bat at No 4, then I am up for the challenge,” he added.

On the upcoming Afghanistan Test

KL Rahul’s immediate next assignment will be the one-off Test against Afghanistan. The match will be played at Bengaluru and it will the first-ever Test match for the visiting Afghanistani side. Rahul is not taking the visitors lightly. He had his words of praise reserved for the good spin contingent that Afghanistan has.

“No doubt they are a very talented squad with some really good spinners. That’s their strength but we will play to our strength,” remarked the Karnataka batsman.
