Since their inception in cricket, England has boasted of some spectacular players who have impressed over the years. Several names have graced the lineups such as Andrew Strauss, Jim Laker, Michael Vaughan, and Marcus Trescothick. However, with so many names, it is quite clear that picking an all-time XI is one of the hardest things in the world.

However, as far as the modern-day fan is concerned, they have their own pick of players who they would like to see play together. With the ECB opening up the poll, it was clear that the modern-day batsmen would indeed get acclaim for the same. Kevin Pietersen, the former South African-born captain of the English side received the most number of votes, something that almost brought the odd tear to his eye.

Speaking about the same, Pietersen said, “When I think of some of the incredible players who haven’t made the cut, legends of the game such as Denis Compton and Wally Hammond, I’m not sure I would have voted for myself, but I certainly want to thank the fans for thinking of me.

‘Great to see teammates as well’

In addition, the former England skipper added that it was indeed nice to see a few familiar faces on the side such as Alastair Cook and Joe Root as well. James Anderson has also been added to the pace attack along with Fred Truman and Bob Willis. Graeme Swann also played with Pietersen in the England colors.

“It’s great to see my current team-mates Alastair Cook and James Anderson be recognized for their contributions to England Test cricket too.”
