This came after Steve Smith was found apparently mocking Leach during the post-match celebrations in Old Trafford, where he was pictured wearing fake glasses.

Jack Leach is a name that every England cricket team fan will remember for eternity. The spectacled left-arm spinner played an important role with the bat off late for the England side. First, he had scored 92 from the night watchman position against Ireland, to save England some blushes. Then he had a match-winning partnership with Ben Stokes in that epic run chase in the Headingley Test of the Ashes 2019, where England chased down 359 runs.

Leach, whose contribution was just one run, was lauded for his efforts to stay there on the crease to let Ben Stokes do all the dirty work and break many Aussie hearts on that eventful day in Leeds. He even earned a life-time supply of specs and other things from Specsavers, the sponsor of the Ashes 2019. However, it seems one former England captain is not happy with what a spectacle Leach has made out of himself.

England are losing an Ashes series and he’s only taken eight wickets, says Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen, the ever outspoken English cricketer, ripped a new one for Jack Leach for being a laughing stock for the team, as they are on the verge of losing the Ashes 2019, having already failed to snatch the urn from the Kangaroos after the massive loss in the Manchester Test.

“It’s doing my head in, that a bloke who’s supposed to win games for England is becoming a laughing stock. You’ve got people in the stands taking the mickey out of him, wearing masks and fake glasses. Commentators are talking about his Specsavers deal. England is losing an Ashes series and he’s only taken eight wickets at 30 in three test matches. It doesn’t look like he’s troubled, anyone. It just annoys me,” Pietersen was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.

This came after Steve Smith was found mocking Leach during the post-match celebrations in Old Trafford, where he was pictured wearing fake glasses. This went viral because of Leach’s habit of regularly stopping to wipe his glasses between overs. A video also saw him re-enact his sole single that brought Stokes on strike and tied the match for the home side.

“Now I’m not saying that you don’t do these things. t can be good for team spirit to have a bit of fun. But, from my side, I want to win. I don’t want to see the crowd about how funny he is. I want to see him winning matches for England with his bowling. Jack Leach isn’t doing his job,” Pietersen signed off after comparing his contributions to that of Swann and Panesar.
