The IPL 2022 is just around the corner. The defending champions Chennai Super Kings will lock horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the curtain-raiser at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are also gearing up for an exciting season this time around.
And one of the most important players of the franchise, Virat Kohli has associated with the RCB ahead of the upcoming season. Kohli had led the Bengaluru-based franchise for nine seasons from 2013 to 2021, and under his guidance, the team had made the finals of the 2016 edition.
RCB, on March 21, took to their official Twitter handle and posted a few images of the batting megastar. A couple of them, supposedly, were of the 33-year-old making his way to the team hotel in Mumbai, and in one of them the Delhi cricketer had donned the team’s new jersey for the upcoming season that also consisted of a few screenshots of fan tweets desperately asking when Kohli will be joining the RCB camp. The franchise went on to caption their tweet as “King Kohli has arrived! That’s it. That’s the news”.

Virat Kohli was one of the retentions of RCB
Virat Kohli was one of RCB’s retentions on November 30, 2021, along with star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, and India pace sensation Mohammed Siraj, respectively. He has been offered a sum of INR 15 crore. The batting icon had relinquished captaincy after the conclusion of the 2021 season.
Kohli might not be in good form as of now, but the upcoming tournament could be a revival in his fortunes. At the same time, it also needs to be noted that the ex-India skipper is the highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history, having amassed 6283 runs from 207 matches at an average of 37.39 and a strike rate of 129.94, including five centuries and 42 half-centuries.
He had scored 973 runs in the 2016 season, which remains the highest by an individual batter in a single edition of the competition to date. Faf du Plessis has been appointed as Bangalore’s new captain. RCB will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against the Punjab Kings at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on March 27.
